10 February
Bromham Lake, Bromham
GR 025 517
HABITAT MANAGEMENT / HEDGELAYING

Lots of work at the lake. The site is along Lower Farm Road, turn right into the site, a little way before the bypass bridge.

15-17th February
Pamber Forest, Hampshire
COPPICING

Pamber Forest, near Basingstoke is a delightful place, as well as being vast, by our Bedfordshire standards. There are lots of varied habitats, from boggy areas to open pasture. There are plenty of deer, and some really cute cattle mooching around. We will probably be coppicing one of the areas. If the work gets a bit tedious, you can go for a wander. There is always lots to see at Pamber, and Graham will take us on a walk on Sunday to finish off a fine weekend. We will be staying at the Little London village hall, as usual, but there is good accommodation nearby if you need a proper bed. The usual hearty meals will be served, at a very reasonable cost of under £10 per person. Did I mention the fantastic pub just a short stroll along the road? I have now. Most people will be travelling down on Friday, but a few normally turn up on Saturday morning. There are always lifts available, so you have no excuse for not coming too. Please contact me a few weeks before so I can set up the travel arrangements and work out how much food to buy.

Spiling revetment at Harrold Country
Park.

24 February
Tree Nursery, Clophill.
GR 081 376
NURSERY WORK

Come along to the Tree Nursery and learn how trees and wild flowers are propagated, and why it is important to use local stock to repopulate our hedgerows and woods. The work will depend upon the weather, but will probably include lining out, planting on seedlings, hoeing out weeds and drinking tea. The site can be reached through the gate on the corner, opposite the Flying Horse.

Clearing leaves from the Lake at The Swiss Gardens

Post and wire fencing

Free of charge transport to the work site from a central point in Bedford, is normally provided. A minibus departs at 9.30am prompt on the day of each task from the Market car park (opposite the Boulevards shopping centre) in the centre of Bedford. It returns by 5PM approx. In the very rare occasions where transport is not provided, then this will be clearly stated in the task programme.
